Permanent residency in Edmonton

Understand the routes to permanent residence and prepare an application that is clear and complete.

Overview

Permanent residence lets you live, work and study anywhere in Canada. To keep it, you need to meet a residency requirement, which we explain at your consultation. There is more than one way to apply: some routes run through federal systems, such as Express Entry, and others through provincial nominee programs, including Alberta's. Each has its own rules, its own forms and its own order of steps.

We start by looking at your education, work history, language ability and family situation, then explain which routes may fit and which probably do not. Requirements and selection rules change, so we check them against the government's current published information at your consultation rather than relying on what was true last year.

Who this suits

  • People working or studying in Canada who want to stay long term
  • Skilled workers outside Canada who are exploring their options
  • Current permanent residents who need to renew or replace a card
  • Families planning a move together who want one clear plan

What to prepare

  • Passports and any travel documents for everyone on the application
  • Education records and, where required, an assessment of foreign credentials
  • Language test results, or a plan for taking a test
  • Work history with letters from employers that describe your duties
  • Proof of any funds or job offers that your route may ask for
  • Civil documents such as birth and marriage certificates

How it works

  1. Consultation

We review your history, your plans and any deadlines you are working against.

  2. Route comparison

We explain the routes that may apply and what each one asks for.

  3. Document plan

You receive a checklist built around your route, with help gathering each item.

  4. Application

We prepare the forms, review them with you and submit the application.

  5. After submission

We track messages from the government and help you respond to requests.

Common questions

No. Express Entry is one federal system. Provincial nominee programs, family sponsorship and other routes exist, and the right one depends on your situation. We compare the options with you rather than assuming one.

Some routes give credit for a job offer and others do not require one. Whether an offer helps in your case depends on the route and on the current rules, which we confirm at your consultation.

Yes. Card renewals have their own forms and document requirements. Bring your current card and passport to the consultation and we will explain what is needed.
